Fosun joins global battle against coronavirus
After sourcing globally for medical supplies, the Chinese conglomerate Fosun International became one of the first private Chinese firms to join the international battle against COVID-19.
A batch of 36,000 protective medical supplies arrived at Tokyo's Narita Airport on Sunday from Shanghai, kicking off Fosun’s second phase of operations to support Japan, South Korea, Italy and other countries and regions affected by the novel coronavirus.
These supplies were raised by Fosun from overseas in the previous stage.
With the support and coordination of local platforms, such as IDERA Capital, the medical supplies were sent to Tokyo, Hokkaido and other regions to meet the emergent needs in their fight against the epidemic.
“The virus is a common enemy of the human race. Fighting the coronavirus is no longer the mission of any single country or government but something everyone in the world must take part in,” said Guo Guangchang, chairman of Fosun International.
Besides Japan, Fosun has delivered needed medical supplies to South Korea through its business partners. It also provided aid to “red zone” hospitals in Italy through its European team including Club Med and PAREF.
As the novel coronavirus continues to spread, Fosun has establishing a “multi-dimensional” prevention and coordination mechanism, which is directed by Guo and Wang Qunbin, co-chairman of Fosun International.
