Visitors to the city's two botanical gardens have been climbing daily over the holiday.
The Chenshan Botanical Garden in Songjiang District received 13,100 visitors on Friday, the first day of the holiday, and 20,046 on Saturday. As of 4pm on Sunday, it had 27,300.
The Shanghai Botanical Garden in Xuhui District received 8,600, 9,100 and 12,000 over the three days.
The Century Park in the Pudong New Area announced at 8am that all its tickets for Sunday were sold out. The park set a quota of 16,000 visitors daily.
All A-level tourist attractions in the city have been ordered to implement mandatory reservation policies during the May Day holiday to control crowds and prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the Shanghai Culture and Tourism Administration has announced.
Forty-four minutes after opening on Sunday, the Zhujiajiao Water Town in Qingpu District had all its 10,100 reservation vacancies fully booked.
Its reservation slots for Monday morning were all taken as well.
A separation strip has been set up on Fangsheng Bridge to prevent overcrowding.
Staff also beefed up patrols in areas popular for photos to prevent crowding.
The Pujiang countryside park in Minhang District suspended online reservations from 1pm on Sunday. Those who failed to make a reservation were not allowed into the magical garden and forest area.
